What Is the CAEC (GED) Test?

The CAEC (GED) Test was introduced to replace the GED, which had been in place for decades but was retired in Canada on May 3, 2024. Unlike the GED, which was based on American content, the CAEC is designed specifically for Canadians, reflecting Canadian perspectives, culture, and educational standards.

The exam is offered in both English and French and assesses five core subject areas:

English Reading

Comprehension and analysis of written passages

English Writing

Clear expression of ideas, including grammar, structure, and essay writing

Mathematics

Problem-solving, algebra, and practical applications

Social Studies

Understanding Canadian history, civics, and social issues

Science

Basic biology, chemistry, and physics concepts

A successful candidate receives a Canadian High School Equivalency Certificate, a credential recognized by employers, post-secondary institutions, and training providers across Canada. Completing the CAEC (GED) Test opens doors to further education and career opportunities.
