The Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program (CELPIP) is a computerized English language proficiency test designed for individuals planning to immigrate to Canada or apply for Canadian citizenship. CELPIP assesses test takers' abilities in listening, reading, writing, and speaking English. CELPIP is administered by Paragon Testing Enterprises which is the only Canadian organization delivering Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) designated English proficiency tests, and also a subsidiary of the University of British Columbia.
CELPIP tests are computer-based and are available at various test centers in Canada and internationally. The test evaluates candidates on their ability to understand and use English in various everyday situations, making it an important requirement for individuals seeking to settle in Canada.
There are two types of CELPIP tests:
CELPIP-General: It evaluates the test taker's English listening, reading, writing, and speaking skills and is designated for permanent residence applications by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), and is also accepted for professional designations like realtors.
CELPIP-General LS: It evaluates the test taker's general English language proficiency in listening and speaking skills only. It is accepted for Canadian citizenship applications.
